Reflections on love and marriage.

Last summer Heartland took in a large group of bunnies from the local animal shelter. They had been living together at the shelter. They had to be separated of course to prevent pregnancy and fights but in the beginning we wanted to try and put them back in a large group after they were spayed and neutered. There was ZERO cooperation on that idea. We quickly realized they would have to end up as bonded pairs rather than a big group.

The dutch bunnies above are the ultimate troublemakers. Several minor scraps ensued!!! First there was fighting, then loving, then fighting, hair pulling, more love and finally hiding. The little girl is trying to make her way into the chiminea and I think Elias is convinced he is incognito inside this cinder block. They are going to take some work!

This gorgeous couple above had a very minor smack down and then happily settled down together.
Is this one bunny with two heads? Little boy buns was binkying so hard and showing off for his lady he had quite a crash into the fence. I affectionately refer to them as Laurel and Hardy.

These two sillies had to be soul mates. Zero aggression on first meeting. Within 30 minutes he was lovingly grooming her ears and snuggling up.
It appears as if the big white kids were just waiting for their mates. It is wonderful to watch. We have a few more couples left to bond and several of them are the marauding dutchies. They are making us work for it for sure. Wish us luck and keep your fingers crossed our dutch kids will decide cuddling is better than fighting!

When introducing the New Zealands Christina will take a cup of coffee with her out to the bunny playground. However, when attempting to introduce the Dutch bunnies she must take a broom with her. Rule number one: Never enter the arena without the protection of a broom. Wayyyy funny is a mad Dutch assaulting a broom that he, or especially a she, thinks is the offending other bunny. Personally I think the Dutchies just like the sound and feel of their feet thrashing at the broom straw. In her efforts to keep the Dutch from hurting each other Christina has had only minor injury to her ankle and still has all her fingers and toes. Excellent!

Still don't have a bonded Dutch pair yet ... but most of the White ones are snuggling with their partners in their new "apartments." What laid-back bunnies they are! So sweet and friendly! The Dutch bunnies are so fiery and passionate you would think they were Italian ... haha ...

Anyways, thanks to Aunt Christina, all the ex-shelter bunnies now have their own cosy play pens in the main warren. Yeahy!!!

That's wonderful! I'm so happy they are doing well! (Even if one did mistake my finger for a carrot during my visit last Christmas. All is forgiven.) Such cute pictures. Best of luck with continued bonding!

Oh, so sweet! We are so lucky that our lop and mini rex girls are the best of buds. And our 5 mini-rex siblings all get along, as well. Nothing better than bunny love!

For Christina .. thanks for the organic sunflower seeds tip for Chico ... roasted? Salted?

Chico continues to improve and we don't know if it's an infection or a big sludge. He is getting 10 days of baytril and lots of fluids and greens. He is eating quite well, is not lethargic, and his plumbing is slowly working better and better ...

Rabbits Guy,
I sent you an email with the pumpkin seed info. Andrea was the one who discovered them. I am glad Chico is getting better.
